I am a big fan of “Plane Food”, Gordon Ramsey’s airport
restaurant at Heathrow. The eggs benedict is delicious, the ham is so intense
in flavour.
So, I had high hopes for Jamie Oliver’s new place at
Gatwick. Weirdly, I have never eaten in a Jamie Oliver establishment, the over
hyped marketing and TK Max shelves full of Jamie Oliver stuff puts me off.
If the Jamie Oliver’s Diner at Gatwick is anything to go by
then I’ll keep giving the others a miss. I have to say that the waiter (or
server, or whatever the correct term might be) was properly hip, so hip he got
the order wrong but not to worry. The “fresh” orange juice (that’s what I
ordered) was pasteurised. The “Full Monty” (full English to you and me) was
indifferent to poor. The sausages had a certain dryness and unpleasant texture to them, the mushrooms
were half cooked, the “roasted tomatoes” were poor quality, unripe and
horrible. All of this for a bargain £10.95 plus £2.95 for dubious orange juice.
Mr Oliver, take a lesson from Gordon Ramsay and focus on
taste and quality, this place gets a 1 out of 10.
